Iran 's Chief Prosecutor has confirmed that six more political prisoners are to be executed. This comes in the wake of the secret execution of five political prisoners on May 9th. Authorities are still refusing to hand over the bodies to their shocked families for burials.
The six condemned political prisoners are: Mr Ahmad Daneshpor Moghadam; Mr Mohsen Daneshpor Moghadam; Abdolreza Ghanbari; Mohammad Ali Sarami; Jafar Kazemi; and Mohammad Ali Haj Aghai.
The prisoners are accused of: Mohareb (waging war on God); threats to national security; propaganda against the regime; advocating to undermine national security by encouraging others to demonstrate against the regime; and contacts with the People's Mojahedin Organisation of Iran.
Reports from Evin prison indicate that the prisoners are denied all contact with their families and the outside world. This was the case two days before the five political prisoners who were put to death on May 9th. It is feared that similar plans are in place to execute the prisoners without the knowledge of their families. The Iranian regime's judicial and security forces fear the repeat of mass protests on the anniversary of the presidential election. Thus, a campaign of intimidation has begun.
The recent upsurges in the number of executions as well as an increase in oppressive tactics, such as the strict enforcement of the dress code, are designed to impose fear on the larger population. In addition, it is widely believed that the explosion in Monireh Square in Tehran was masterminded by the regime for the same purpose. But, the regime's squaring up to the people really reflects the political fears of the regime.
We the bloggers are increasingly concerned about the safety of these political prisoners who are condemned to death. We urge all international human rights organisations and activists to contact the relevant bodies and demand the immediate halt to these and all other executions in Iran .
